Setting the Stage for the Restoration Project

The Woodward Development Corp. has already raised and invested over $1 million in acquisition and capital improvement dollars for the restoration efforts of the Woodward Opera House complex. A new roof has been completed, a masonry stabilization project was performed, new utilities and a partial sprinkler system has been installed, and three first floor mercantile spaces were authentically renovated and restored. This work comprised Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the overall Woodward Restoration Program.

Phase 3, the abatement phase, is underway. Once completed (2007), the exterior of the Woodward building will be completely restored, except the lower storefront facades that will be addressed in a later phase. As part of Phase 3, the asbestos has been completely removed from the building pair. Next, this phase calls for the exterior lead based paint to be removed, the masonry and windows restored, plus other related renovation work.

Following Phase 3, Phase 4 will be implemented. The Woodward Opera House will then be operational to the extent necessary to use as a fully functional theater. See “Project Overview” (page 8) for additional details pertaining to the overall Woodward Restoration Program.

In order to complete Phase 3, $514,000 in local funds must be raised to match the remaining $786,400 of the federal Save America’s Treasures Grant (and other grants) before June of 2007. Your donation to make this Woodward Restoration Program continue is needed.
