Woodward Restoration Project:
How You Can Help

For the overall campaign to succeed, the Woodward Opera House Block must represent, from the outside, what it is underneath: a physically sound structure of great historical significance. The WDC’s immediate goal, therefore, is to raise funds for a “facelift” of the exterior. A challenge grant exists for this purpose, but to meet the donor’s requirements, the WDC must raise an additional $500,000 by June of 2007—or lose the initial funds. Your generous gift toward this goal will ensure that further generations experience culture, entertainment, and learning opportunities in what by 2009 will again be recognized as a Knox County and national landmark.

In addition to financial donations, we are also looking for volunteers. Since taking possession of the Woodward Block, the WDC and its volunteers have completed optimal improvements, such as: cleared and cleaned its interior, replaced the roof, arranged for inspection of the infrastructure, rehabilitated and re-tenanted the ground-floor retail units, and completed a myriad of minor repairs. The volunteers have worked with the City of Mount Vernon for updates to the standpipe and storm-water systems. They have also taken area elementary school children on tours and made the theater’s presence known on a local basis. There are a wide variety of opportunities for volunteers.
